Fulfillment of dietary supplements
The biggest deal to date in “Die Höhle der Löwen” – the German version of “Shark Tank” – presented RHIEM with great challenges as the new fulfillment service provider for the manufacturer Smart Sleep GmbH. Meticulous planning led to a smooth ramp-up of the dispatch processes after the series had been broadcast on television.
smartsleep® is a special nutrient supplement combining creatine, vitamins, minerals and the amino acid L-glycine and is taken just before sleep. The nutrients contained in smartsleep® assist in various ways, contributing to the normal functioning of the nervous system (magnesium), supporting the energy metabolism (vitamin B6), protecting the cells from oxidative stress (vitamin B2), and helping to reduce tiredness and fatigue during the day (riboflavin).
The entrepreneurs behind smartsleep® walked away from the “Die Höhle der Löwen” in 2018 with a record investment of € 1.5 million. The two investors Carsten Maschmeyer and Ralf Dümmel got on board and helped the young company to make a breakthrough. “After sealing the deal, we worked flat out to prepare ourselves for the peak in interest and the onrush of new customers. The number of hits on the website and demand in the online shop are expected to go through the roof on the evening of the television broadcast. We had to prepare ourselves for this surge in demand and looked for a partner who could help us to scale the business,” said Daniel Matthieu, co-founder and marketing manager of smartsleep®.
RHIEM made arrangements for the start of mail order processes, basing its preparations on empirical data from previous deals and liaising closely with the smartsleep® production planning team. Systems were put in place to cope with the jump in weekly demand to five-digit figures and to keep up the supply as the business subsequently found its daily rhythm. “We are pleased that we were able to live up to the expectations placed in us and look forward to taking things at a more relaxed pace in the further development of smartsleep®,” said Dr. Stefan Rhiem, managing partner of the RHIEM Group.
